One of the most frequented national parks in the Uttarakhand region, Rajaji National Park covers an area of 820.42 sq km in the foothills of the Himalayas. The famous national park derives its name from the first Indian governor general of India, Rajagopalachari. The national park came into being in the year 1983 after combining three wildlife sanctuaries - Rajaji, Motichur and Chilla. Today, the park has the eminence of sheltering the largest density of wild elephants in the entire Uttarakhand region.
The ideal time to plan a visit to the Rajaji National Park is between the months of October and March every year. If you are traveling to the park during winter months, you need to do appropriate planning to prevent yourself against the chilly weather.
The national park features a pristine flora and fauna for travellers to explore. Avifaunal species are also among top wildlife attractions in the Rajaji National Park. The wildlife park has around 49 mammalian species, 315 bird species, 49 reptilian species and 10 species of amphibians. Some of the most commonly spotted animal species in this national park include elephants, tigers, leopards, deer, sloth bear, jungle cat, jackal, Indian langur, wild boar etc.
During your wildlife tour to Rajaji National Park, you also get a wonderful opportunity to explore a variety of bird species that find shelter in the northern Himalayas. Popularly seen bird species found in this park include kingfishers, barbets, pheasants, pea fowl, woodpeckers etc. King cobra, python and monitor lizard are among the commonly spotted reptiles in the national park.
Day1: Welcome! Your journey starts from Delhi, once you arrive at Rajaji National Park check-in at the resort. Post lunch and rest, gypsy will pick you up for your evening safari at Chila range. Return from the safari. You may also choose to spend leisure time with in-house activities in the resort. Retire for the day after dinner. (Meals included – Lunch and Dinner).
Day2: Wake up early morning for birding trail to admire the shivalik range, on your trail you can encounter with Avifauna and mammals of Rajaji National Park or wake up on your own time to enjoy your morning with hot cup of tea while taking the scenic view of Shivalik ranges. Check out from resort and way back to Delhi. (Meals included – Breakfast).
Travellers can reach the Rajaji National Park from all the key destinations in Uttarakhand including Dehradun, Haridwar, Mussoorie and Rishikesh. The headquarters of the national park is located in Dehradun, which is well connected by rail and road with all the important destinations in Uttarakhand. The Chilla Gate of the park is 9 km away from Haridwar while the Kunao Gate is at a distance of 6 km from Rsihikesh.
