Gangotri ji Gangotri is one of the Char Dham located in the State of Uttarakhand. Mythologically, it is said that the Gangotri is the true source of holy River Ganges. This is the place where Bhagirath worshipped Lord Shiva and mother Ganga descended on the earth. Apart from that, it is also conceived that Lord Shiva received the river in his matted locks. Gangotri is one of the sacred sites placed at an altitude of 3, 200 meters above the sea level. A visit to the Gangotri Temple is a must for all the Hindu believers.

The shrine of Bhagirathi is also situated at Gangotri. The shrine of Bhagirathi is comprised of Yamuna Ji, Saraswati Ji, Lakshmi Ji, Annapurna Ji, Ganga Ji, and Parvati Ji. All the materials which are used for the holy pooja are made of Gold only. The Gangotri shrine was constructed by the Gorkha General Amar Singh Thapa in 18th century




The Ganges was descended on the earth in the response of prayer made by the Bhagirath. When Ganga was descended on the earth she was in arrogance mood that is why God Shiva took Ganga in his hairs to break his force and leave her into streams. One of the streams of Ganga which began from Gangotri was named Bhagirathi. The Pandavas are also believed to have performed the "Deva Yajna" to free from the sin of death of their kinsmen in the ancient fought of Mahabharata. The Gangotri shrine is located on the bank of Bhagirathi. The area also includes a number of Ashrams as well away from the side of the river..

Gangotri Temple Guide
The temple of Gangotri is the most elevated site and of extreme significant temple of Goddess Ganga. It is a small town around the shrine of Goddess Ganga. There is a Shivling submerged into Gangotri water and can be viewed during winter when its level gets down. The place has immense respect among the pilgrims and Hindu followers.


Gaumukh
Gaumukh Glacier is located at an altitude of 4200 meters high above the sea level at Gangotri in the state of Uttarakhand. The existence of the glacier was come into life due to the geographical reason. Gaumukh Glacier is at a distance of 18 kilo meters away from Gangotri. At this site Gangotri is known by the name of Bhagirathi. To take a holu dip in the water of Gangotri is a must for the pilgrims and Hindu devotees. The shape of the Glacier is looks like a face of a Cow so; the Glacier is called as Gaumukh.


About Gaurikund and Devghat
The destination has immense respect among the Hindu followers. Dev Ganga is a small and clean water stream which passes through Devghat. Devghat is the meeting of River Kedar Ganga and river Bhagirathi. The place is a holy site for the worshippers as well.Wife of Lord Shiva "Parvati" also popular by the name of 'Gauri' in most of the corners of the country. Gaurikund is devoted to the Hindu Goddess Parvati. Gaurikund occupies its area in Garhwal Himalayas, at a height of 6000 ft above sea level. It is said that this is the place where Gauri impressed Lord Shiva and they got married.
